There’s a Place for You in the Music Program at Sand Point Community United Methodist Church
“Among the many benefits of the musical experience at Sand Point United Methodist Church is the web of friendship and caring that is formed in our community as we work together to create our offerings of musical beauty to God.” – Leslie Martin, Director of Music
Our Chancel Choir, under the direction of Leslie Martin, presents musical offerings on Sundays at our 10 AM worship service. We are a welcoming community and encourage
everyone who has an interest in singing to join us for rehearsal; no previous choral experience needed! We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 – 9 PM, and on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM. During our preparations for Christmas, Easter, and special musical presentations such as cantatas, we extend our mid-week rehearsal to two hours, so that other singers from our church and community who wish to join us for these exciting performances will only have to attend the first portion of the rehearsal. The choir generally sings September – May, with opportunities to offer solo and small ensemble music during the summer months when the choir is on hiatus.
Our Handbell Choir, also under the direction of Leslie Martin, rehearses on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 6:30 – 7:30 PM, September through May. We perform about once a month throughout the academic year and often provide special music for holy days such as Christmas and Easter. We ring a Three Octave set of Schulmerich Handbells, which accommodates 11 ringers.
We currently have openings for 3 ringers, and encourage all who are interested in ringing to attend one of our rehearsals to see how much fun it is! Music reading ability is helpful but not essential. Ringing handbells is a “team sport”, and we are a fun-loving, intergenerational community.
Special Instrumental and Vocal Music at Sand Point
We have many opportunities for those from our church and the greater community to offer their musical talents throughout the year. If you sing, or play an instrument, and would like to share your musical gifts with the congregation, please contact Leslie Martin, our Director of Music.
